Neogothic Collection // Neve Cosmetics

Here’s the boldest Neve Cosmetics collection for you, read on if it fascinates you!

Oh hello hello hello, girls (& guys)! I’m extremely late, but I hope the amount of pictures I took for this post will make you forgive me. I’m about to show you every peace Neve brought out for their new collection. Let’s begin with my little review.

THE COLLECTION: “The darkest side of beauty. A fantasy tale unfolding through rare and enigmatic shades. Prophecies, symbols, spells.. Magic is in the eye of the beholder”.
On sale till November 20th. Promo: 15% off.
STORY: It was inspired by Melusine, from the French folklore, a female spirit in the shape of a mermaid, who people believed had magical powers. Everything black, deep colours, lace and corsets should make you think of this collection.

Neogothic includes 3 new eyeshadows, 1 blush, 3 new Pastello Eye Pencils, 3 Pastello Lip Pencils and 1 Vernissage Gloss.

THE EYESHADOWS:
They went all in for the eyeshadows for Neogothic! They are all shimmer shades, with very deep colours, even the lightest one has a mysterious, dark vibe to it. I can definitely say they stick with the theme for the shadows, and you can see their names are very evocative. The formula is THE GOOD ONE, I mean it’s the soft, buttery feel to it which we have already encountered with Fenice (to quote the best example I can possibly think of), from the Amber Wonderland Palette.

Whatever you see in the pressed pan, you see swatched on your arm/eye it’s that pigmented. Prophecy, like for many others, is my favourite shade, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s not exactly gold, it’s less “in-your-face” than gold, and it’s got greenish reflexes in it, very peculiar. Then there’s Hero, and Melusine, the darkest colours, which I obviously prefer to matte ones as these are clearly meant to be applied on the lid for a dark, gothic look. All the three colours match each other quite well, they definitely can be used all together. To take advantage fully of their pigmentation, I would apply with a wet brush for a more intense effect.

COMPARISONS:

PROPHECY – Bronze with burgundy undertone, golden shimmer and green glints.
I tried to compare it with other Neve Cosmetics eyeshadows, and Rust by Nabla. I can say there’s nothing quite like it, it’s like Fenice with green shimmers added to it.

HERO (I can be your hero baaaaaby!) – Black duochrome with bright blue shimmer.
As for the other two shadows, this one I haven’t found anything similar to in my collection, I have no shimmery blue toned shades, apart from Nabla’s “Chattermark”, but it is clearly something VERY different. It’s a very light grey with blue reflexes. But still I thought it would be useful to compare my matte blues to underline how they differ from each other.

MELUSINE – Creamy black with anthracite grey satin sheen.
Here I did the same, I compared Melusine to another matte shadow, Black Sheep, to compare them and show you how deep, and dark of a grey this is. It’s almost black, and the only shade I found that had some sort of satin finish to it was from Pixi Beauty, even though the formula is quite different, and doesn’t feel as buttery as Neve. Plus it has little sparse glitters in it, and not that coat of shimmers that Melusine has.

THE PASTELLO PENCILS:
So like I said, there’s 6 pencils in total, 3 eye ones (Knight, Dagger, Sword), and 3 lip ones (Mandragora, Symbol, Witch). You can definitely notice the new formula, especially in the Eye Pencils, they’re extremely soft, good for a reason, not so good for the other. I still find that as “eyeliner”, they tend to melt a little on my oily lids. But as eyeshadow, or better maybe as base for eyeshadow, they’re great. As for the colours, they still represent the theme quite well, and I notice there’s nothing like them among my other Neve pencils, or in general in my collection.

(From left to right: Witch, Mandragora, Symbol, Knight, Sword, Dagger.)

Sword is the only shimmer one, and can be used to highlight the inner corner of the eye. The lip liners…you know exactly what I’m going to say, they’re incredible, I love them so much. They don’t survive food or drinks, but apart from that they can easily last for quite a few hours. I love all the colours, it’s literally the shades I normally go for, only synthesized in 3 colours, perfect for 3 different occasions. I wouldn’t say they did stick with the theme that much for them, especially Symbol, and Mandragora, but they’re still very versatile and colours you NEED to own.

COMPARISONS:
Eye:

KNIGHT – Dark sepia on a tobacco green base.

DAGGER – Dark agate green with bronze undertone.

I compared them with the other green shades I have from previous collections, you can see yourself the difference.

SWORD – Shimmer opal gold with a neutral-cool undertone.
It was swatched next to Gioia and Corona, which are shimmer too, but one a pinkish/rose gold and the other a silver one. I can say I’m all set now!

Lips:

MANDRAGORA – Dark and deep flesh pink, intense and enticing.

Mandragora is close to Vino, although Vino is darker. This was the only case where I found something slightly similar to what I already own from this collection.

Here it is on the lips:

SYMBOL – Warm & deep light beige with amber undertone.

I thought I would find in Miele and Cappuccino at least one perfect dupe. But I didn’t. As you can see symbol is a warm, beigy nude, whilst the other two have a pink component in them. It’s the perfect, PROPER NUDE for people who have my same skin undertone.

Lip swatch:

WITCH – Extra dark purple with magenta undertone.

Definitely my favourite one, one of the darkest colours from Neve. Its comparisons include an eye pencil – Vanità, and Jacaranda. But yes, I knew deep inside there was nothing even remotely comparable.

You can see how beautiful it is here:

THE BLUSH – COURT:
Court was a surprise, it is definitely different to all the other Neve blushes I own, it’s got a different formula, and it’s shimmery, not matte like the other ones I have. Almost “creamy” and quite pigmented for a blush, like I read in other reviews, especially the one from my good friend Sabina, from 10 way to wearmakeup, it’s less “dry” than escape, for example, off which, like she described, I had to scrape a layer to fully get to it.

“Sunset red blush with ruby undertone.”
I must say, if this is the formula they’re going for from now on, it’s a WIN-WIN situation.
Here are the other blushes from Neve compared to Court:

THE VERNISSAGE GLOSS – THE MAGIC CIRCLE:
I feel like with The Magic Circle we get back on track regarding the Neogothic theme, this Vernissage is the star of the entire collection, in my opinion. We can’t find anything similar to it, from Neve at least. It was quite a daring choice.

The applicator:

Applied on its own it can result to be a little intimidating, but I feel like it’s so pretty, I would wear it in my boldest days, but girls, if you start feeling like it’s not your cup of tea, remember it’s a great top coat, it adds luminosity to a matte lip colour.

Have a look at this Halloween makeup I did on my friend, with The Magic Circle on top of the Pastello “Witch”. -> LINK.
And here's how it looks on its own on my lips:

And you? Have you tried or do you intend to try anything from this collection? If you do, let me know in a comment. I hope the swatches and my general opinion have been of help someway. Have a great weekend <3
